Chardonnay – indigenous variety originating in France, where it probably originated by free crossing of „Pinot Gris“ and „Heunisch“. It is spread all over the world, where it is grown on 210 thousand hectares and is the eighth most widespread variety in the world. In Moravia it has been grown together with the „Pinot Blanc“ since time immemorial. The variety is demanding in terms of location and soil selection. It likes the high guidance with a large leaf area. It is one of the most popular varieties, used to produce wines using both modern and original technologies. It is very suitable for barrique technology or sur lie technology. It provides full harmonious wines with a higher aroma intensity. With necessary reduction of grapes, the wine has a typical tropical character with the aroma of mango, cream, banana, pineapple, yellow melon, sometimes honey or caramel.
